How to Celebrate Summer

in Social Distance And Style

The Memorial Long Weekend is upon us, which can mean one thing: summer is officially here. Normally, this would be a cause for celebration: stocking up on our favorite seasonal fruits, planning backyard barbecues, hitting up the beach with our friends.

C elebrating summer 2020, however, may look a little different from previous years. While some places are planning to reopen (or have already reopened) many public areas and businesses, social distancing and travel rules still remain in place. H osting parties or family reunions in person may not be a possibility. But that doesn't mean you can't celebrate the arrival of — it just might take a little more creativity.

Here are some of our tips and outfit ideas for getting into the festive mood for summer while practicing safe social distance:

1. BECOME YOUR OWN BARTENDER

Make it a party at home and master some cocktail recipes. You can find recipes almost anywhere online, like this list of Easy Summer Drinks. And if you're looking for good, inexpensive liquor for your concoctions, Trader Joe's and Target have some great options.

2. THROW A ZOOM REUNION

Take it one step further and invite your friends to a virtual reunion party. Make it cozy with some popcorn, a snuggly blanket, and moody background tunes. Need some activity ideas? Try playing online games like Codenames or Skribbl.io, or stream a movie together.

THE OUTFIT: RELAXED & COZY

3. HOST A VIRTUAL BOOK CLUB

Sure, you check off your summer reading list alone...or you could do it with a group of your book-loving (some might proudly say nerdy?) friends. Grab a cup of coffee (or tea), your laptop, your latest book and hit up some fellow bookworms to discuss your latest summer read obsession.

THE OUTFIT: PREPPY & POLISHED

4. DOCUMENT YOUR #QUARANTINE BAKING JOURNEY

We've all been trying (and failing) at new baking recipes. Take it to the next level and start your own foodie feed with some proud shots of your creations. Sharing your creativity with others will make even your solo baking adventure feel like a social activity!

5. TAKE SOLO WALKS IN NATURE

Good news for all you nature-lovers: many outdoor public spaces like hiking trails and parks are opening up again, just in time for the summer months. Getting fresh air and exercise will also boost your mood and keep you healthy (physically and mentally!).
